Betty Nolan is an expressive Tasmanian artist who responds to art and society with abstract and semi abstract works.
The owner of Nolan Gallery, she is also an artist working mostly in abstraction. Using transparencies, fluid paints and light reflective materials she makes bodies of work that are visually active and change with the aspect of the viewer. Trained at Newcastle School of Art and the University of Tasmania she is influenced by modernists such as Max Ernst but also draws inspiration as far back as Turner and Tintoretto..
Her recent works incorporate silkscreen printing and glass beads with metallic inks under layers of transparent oil paint. Thematically her paintings explore the environment, colour and relationships between people.
