Betty Nolan is an expressive Tasmanian artist who responds to art and society with abstract paintng and sculpture.

Owner of Nolan Gallery Betty Nolan is also an artist working with abstraction. Using transparencies and layering she makes bodies of work that speak of her own beliefs and experiences. Trained at Newcastle School of Art and the University of Tasmania she is influenced by modernists such as Kandinsky and Max Ernst but also draws inspiration as far back as Turner and Tintoretto..

Her recent works explore colour, creating a fictitious pictorial space designed to invite the viewer through the square to participate in the action. A ceramist as well as painter her sculptures of horses are influenced by equine sculpture from Tang China to mid century Modern Italian makers such as Aldo Londi.
