THE TRAMWAY

In 1836 Captain Charles Booth was Commander of Port Arthur. Booth had his convict workforce construct an 8 kilometer wooden rail from Norfolk Bay to Long Bay near Port Arthur to take passengers from ships that had sheltered at Norfolk Bay. At that time ships had to shelter under Bruny Island, often for days. Now they could turn to port into Norfolk Bay and unload passengers to continue their journey by rail. [An adaptation from timber getting technology.]
