This work is about walking through Rosny Point forest, a remnant piece of vegetation along the River Derwent. Since white settlement the land has been cleared and used for agriculture. These days though the sheoaks and eucalyptus trees have reclaimed the land and it’s possible to see the middens where indigenous people collected shellfish. The area is very dry as the rivulets here have ben diverted into storm water drains but the black sheoaks persist, squeaking as they rub together in battering high winds.
The forms of the painting are based on two trees whose forms seemed to dance together, swirling wildly in the forest.
