“Orchidae Varianta Verdanta”

Flameworked glass assemblage

43cm x 23cm

Categories: ,

This wonderful work celebrates Tasmania’s orchidae.

The “Botanica Vulnerablis” Series of domed assemblages, celebrates the vigour and fecundity of the diverse and extraordinary botanical forms to be found in our marine and terrestrial environments.  The artist creates quasi scientific names and captures the botanical sculptures under glass like the scientific specimen displays of the 19th century.
She seeks to remind the viewer of the importance of botanical diversity and its vulnerability to mankind-generated change to climate and habitat.   Like these plants, glass can also be delicate and full of colour and detail yet surprisingly robust.
