tarenorer (also known as Walyer) was a young tomeginee woman, from the Emu Bay area of Northern Tasmania (Burnie). In 1828 she escaped enslavement by sealers, who frequently abducted indigenous women and forced them into prostitution, holding them as mere property to be traded and used. It said, that during her enslavement, tarenorerer learned to speak English and more strategically, learned to use firearms. It is not clear how she managed so, but upon her escape, she accumulated firearms and trained her people in their use, going on led men and women alike in an organised guerrilla rebellion against the colonists.
