Greg Nolan

is relatively new to sculptural ceramics but has spent a career in the world of building design as a Professor of Architecture at Unitas. Inspired by buildings as much as Tasmanian marsupials, his witty sculptural animals cavort around the countryside, throwing associations of mid century modern atomic design, banal wombat jokes and stabby quolls. The underneath is fiercely buttressed (it’s windy in Tasmania) and the surfaces owe something to Milan’s Ettore Sottsass and Jasper John’s Pop Art. Mario Marini’s happy horsemen are the inspiration for pearl bedecked horsewomen.
