Pierre Cavalan opens our eyes to the exquisite tiny creations of human beings that celebrate, label and facilitate life. In his small multi face collages we can see enamelled cloissone badges alongside sculpted and distressed pieces of coloured aluminium saucepan lids. The richness of these vintage surfaces stimulate the memory and revive personal stories from long ago. Transformed, these pieces of civilisation’s detritus turn into faces in the crowd, full of character and personal history.
Pierre’s vision is uniquely that of a jeweller, one who cuts, pierces and hammers sheets of vintage metal into something new , inviting the viewer to add their own memories to the artists.
