This is a bravura work by celebrated Indigenous jeweller, Tasmania’s Jeanette James. Constructed from eagle claws and black crow shells threaded on kangaroo sinew, there are only a handful of these remarkable works by an artist whose work is held in the Australian national collection as well as the TMAG.

The necklace is made from the talons of wedge tail eagles, an endangered species that the artist sources through Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife. The birds are usually the victims of powerline or car accident misadventure so the artist aims to raise awareness of the desperate need for humans to find a way to live in harmony with nature.
