This piece has been ‘fermenting’ for maybe fifty years and relates to a childhood experience of watching scuba divers in a glass fronted tank at the Boat Show in London that my father took me to each year. I always recall the experience as somewhat disturbing as the water was sludge green and as I watched thinking, are they drowning or surfacing ?
