Jaclyn Poke
Is a Northern Tasmanian artist with a background in art therapy. From her Fine Arts training as well as experience in using the visual arts to heal she creates responses to the environment that are decorative and intricate. Woven into a visual tapestry of mark making are the forests and skies of Tasmania. The works evoke the horor vacuii of Islamic art as well as painted narrative mapscapes of Australian indigenous artists. The colour however, is entirely contemporary with high toned pastels in vivid pinks and turquoise greens. The impression is of a vividly alive landscape dancing in the bright Tasmanian light but made of thousands of marks scribed by the artist’s hand
